Doç. Dr. Onur TAYLAN
Division Coordinator, Concentrated Solar Thermal Power Technologies
Concentrated Solar Thermal Energy Technologies (ODAK)
Onur Taylan is an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Middle East Technical University. He is also coordinating ODTU-GUNAM’s concentrated solar technologies division, named ODAK. He received his PhD with his dissertation on solar fuels from the University of Texas at Austin, USA, in 2014. His research focuses on solar thermal energy systems. More specifically, he is modeling renewable energy systems, including solar thermal, concentrating solar, solar PV, wind, hydrogen production from solar energy and energy storage systems, and sizing these systems in a hybrid renewable energy system using techno-economic analyses. The research covers apartment, building, micro-grid scales, and industrial processes. He has been leading some national research projects and working as a lead researcher in some Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects, including SolarTwins, SFERA-III and SolarHub. He has published more than 35 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and conference proceedings and has been serving as an editor in the International Journal of Thermodynamics. He has supervised more than 10 graduate students in Mechanical Engineering and Sustainable Energy and Environment Systems. He also received the NSF ASME Heat Transfer Division Award for the workshop on Emergent Trends in Heat Transfer Engineering, Research and Teaching, and two Professional Development Awards by the University of Texas at Austin.
