Emerging Photovoltaic Technologies (EMPV)

About

The Emerging Photovoltaics (EmPV) Division at ODTÜ-GÜNAM focuses on the development of next-generation materials, devices, and architectures for solar energy conversion. The Division conducts both fundamental and applied research on perovskite, tandem, thin-film, and organic photovoltaic technologies, contributing to the development of high-efficiency and cost-effective solar cells.

Research Areas and Expertise

The EmPV Division works on perovskite-based solar cells, perovskite/silicon tandem architectures, thin-film technologies, organic solar cells, hybrid photovoltaic systems, and next-generation material solutions.

Research activities cover the integration of newly developed materials into emerging photovoltaic devices, interface engineering, optical and electrical characterization, stability analysis, device optimization, and scalable fabrication processes toward module-level applications.

In addition, studies on the environmental durability and long-term stability of photovoltaic devices provide a basis for assessing the commercialization potential of emerging photovoltaic technologies. Through national and international research collaborations, EmPV contributes to advancing the technological maturity of next-generation solar technologies.

Infrastructure and Capabilities

The EmPV Division has the infrastructure required for the fabrication, characterization, and durability testing of emerging photovoltaic devices. Its facilities include thin-film deposition systems, coating equipment, glovebox systems, solar simulators, I–V measurement systems, optical characterization instruments, and environmental test chambers.

The Division also has fabrication and testing capabilities that support the transition of laboratory-scale solar cells toward module-level technologies. Stability assessments, environmental stress tests, and performance measurements are carried out using internationally recognized test procedures and standards.
