Solar Technologies Open Innovation Program (G-TAP)

What Is G-TAP?

G-TAP is ODTÜ-GÜNAM’s membership program that brings together research, testing and validation, data sharing, qualified human resources, capacity building, entrepreneurship, incubation, and strategy and policy development in the field of solar energy.

The program creates long-term and structured collaboration opportunities for companies, start-ups, academic stakeholders, and public institutions, going beyond one-off service procurement. Members engage with ODTÜ-GÜNAM’s research infrastructure, technical expertise, training activities, and collaboration networks in line with their technology development objectives.

Purpose of the Program

Developing competitive products, processes, and business models in solar technologies requires not only production capacity, but also R&D capability, testing and validation infrastructure, qualified human resources, technology monitoring, and effective collaboration.

G-TAP responds to these needs by aiming to:

  • Strengthen the flow of knowledge among industry, academia, public institutions, and the entrepreneurship ecosystem;
  • Support joint R&D and technology development activities;
  • Facilitate access to testing, characterisation, validation, and pilot-scale implementation processes;
  • Enhance the capabilities of organisations’ technical teams;
  • Explore national and international funding opportunities for collaborative projects;
  • Support R&D centre capacity building and project maturation activities within the scope of Law No. 5746; and
  • Contribute technical expertise and data-based input to sectoral policy and strategy documents.

G-TAP Membership Structure

Membership and Collaboration Process

1. Assessment of Needs

The organisation’s field of activity, technology development objectives, technical needs, and collaboration expectations are assessed jointly with ODTÜ-GÜNAM.

2. Determination of the Membership Category

Following the assessment, the appropriate membership category, membership period, and associated rights are determined. Payment of a fee alone does not automatically confer membership; membership becomes effective upon ODTÜ-GÜNAM’s approval and the signing of the agreement by both parties.

3. Establishment of the Annual Work Plan

Technical consultations, project development topics, training activities, service needs, and other areas of collaboration to be addressed during the membership period are planned jointly.

4. Implementation of Projects and Services

Joint projects, testing and validation requests, specialised technical work, training activities, and access to infrastructure are carried out under the relevant quotation, service list, project protocol, or separately executed agreement.

5. End-of-Period Review

At the end of the membership period, completed activities and the collaboration objectives for the following period are reviewed. The terms of the new membership period are determined through the written agreement of both parties.
