Research Division
Power Electronics, Grid and System Integration (POWERING)
About
The Power Electronics and Energy Systems (Powering) Division at ODTÜ-GÜNAM develops power electronics solutions aimed at improving the efficiency, reliability, and grid integration capabilities of solar energy systems. The Division focuses on energy conversion, storage, and intelligent energy management across the photovoltaic energy chain, from generation to consumption.
Research Areas and Expertise
The Powering Division works on the development of high-efficiency converters, inverters, and intelligent energy management systems for photovoltaic applications.
Its main research areas include:
• Photovoltaic inverter and power converter topologies
• Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and control algorithms
• Energy storage systems and battery management systems (BMS)
• Microgrid and hybrid system control
• Grid integration, power quality, and system safety analysis
The Division also contributes to the safe, reliable, and sustainable operation of solar energy systems through data-driven monitoring, AI-assisted performance optimization, fault detection, and digital twin applications.
Infrastructure and Capabilities
The Powering Division has a comprehensive research infrastructure that enables testing under both laboratory and field conditions.
The infrastructure includes inverter test platforms, load banks, power analyzers, data acquisition systems, battery testing equipment, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurement instruments.
The Division has the capability to develop converter and inverter prototypes across power levels ranging from 1 kW to 50 kW, perform efficiency and harmonic analyses, and conduct performance testing of both grid-connected and islanded systems.
Through these capabilities, Powering aims to enhance the stability, energy efficiency, and digital integration of renewable energy systems.
